On the 30th of September 2009, the NOIP issued Decision No. 1895/QD-SHTT on granting GI Certificate No. 17 for the famous Đại Hoàng Ngự banana. People’s Committee of Ly Nhan district is the administration authority of “Đại Hoàng” GI for the Ngự banana product.

On November 6th 2009,the Opening Ceremony of a new Branch Office of the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam (NOIP) was launched at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park by Mr. Nguyen Van Lang,Deputy Minister of Science and Technology,Head of the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park Management Board.

On 21 April 2009, in Ha Noi, the National Office of Intellectual Property of Viet Nam and the American Chamber of Commerce jointly organized the seminar on “Intellectual Property for journalists”. H.E. Mr. Nguyen Quan, Vice Minister of Science and Technology attended the seminar and delivered the opening speech. The seminar was also attended by Mr. Murray Hibert, Senior Director for Asia, AMCHAM, Mrs. Pham Chi Lan, former General Secretary of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Tran Viet Hung, Director General of the NOIP, managers of some enterprises and over 50 journalists from the press and television stations.

On 11 and 13 March 2009, the NOIP and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) organized the seminars on “Development and utilization of IP information in Viet Nam” in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City within the framework of a technical assistance project between Viet Nam and Japan.

On 12 January 2009, NOIP organized the Conference “Review 2008 and Directions 2009” and the Staff Meeting of the NOIP. H.E. Mr. Nguyen Quan, Vice Minister of Science and Technology attended the Conference. The Conference was also presented by Mr. Tran Van Tung, Director General of Personnel Department and representatives of some functional agencies of Ministry of Science and Technology.
